‘Dust Swallowed Me Whole’ is a 30-page ethno-graphic novel about an anthropological fieldwork experience that goes totally wrong. Using my own first-hand experience of being trapped on a cult’s property, I unpack the layers of reality that exist in moments of crisis and how we experience “fieldwork beside itself” as anthropologists. Dreams, fears, hallucinations, and external voices all coincide to create new lived realities. The ethno-graphic novel is based on a series of true events, using my personal journal and sketchbook as it’s main sources of reference.
