‘Walk With Me’ Exhibition at DrawSpace
My work is currently on display, alongside a group of incredible artists who use walking in their practices, at DrawSpace Gallery in Sydney. Exploring the concept of ‘Disobedient Wildlife’ – a theme I am developing in my PhD research – the gallery is covered in impolite, mischievous critters and more-than-human actors, inviting audiences to reconsider conceptions of space and time!
Holly O’Neil is an anthro-artist working with the wetlands across Sydney. Calling on “disobedient” wildlife, in this work she explores how more-than-human actors defy expectations to remain unseen in the city and occupy spaces where they “ought” not to be. Working alongside the photodiagrams, O’Neil’s work invites us to question the seen and unseen, with more-than-human actors interrupting the gallery space. The disruptive nature of the work reflects these disobedient critters: a call to look for the stories that inhabitants of the city can tell us – to unpeel layers of history and habitat. Holly O’Neil’s work spans creative research, illustration, audio and film, to weave narratives that explore the intersections of science, art, anthropology and storytelling.
My drawings sit next to the photodiagrams that exist as part of our Surfacing Urban Wetlands ARC project.
