Barangga First Nations Design Gathering

Saturday 26th October

I attended the annual Barangga Design Gathering this week – this year being the first time a day of the event was welcome to everyone, with the first day focused on First Nations participants. The gathering opened with a smoke ceremony by Uncle Les Mcleod, which was the first I have attended and was a real privilege to be a part of. The gathering was a really open and inviting event, encouraging discourse and conversation around public art and urban planning, and how First Nations perspectives, designs and input feed into the public arts and planning. The gathering reflected on the joys and the many difficulties that First Nations designers encounter. To hear more from the the organisers, check out their work here.
